RICHARD CONTE
Alan Walbridge Ladd (September 3, 1913 – January 29, 1964) was an American film actor. He was famous for his emotionless demeanor and small stature.
Ladd married his agent/manager and former movie actress Sue Carol in 1942. It was at this point that Carol found a vehicle which made Ladd's career, This Gun for Hire. His performance as a hitman with a conscience made him a sensation. Ladd went on to become one of Paramount Pictures' most popular stars. A brief timeout for military service with the United States Army Air Force's First Motion Picture Unit did not diminish his popularity. None of his subsequent films of the 1940s were as notable as This Gun for Hire, but he did appear to good effect in Raymond Chandler's story The Blue Dahlia alongside the similarly diminutive Veronica Lake (5'2" or 1.57 m), with whom he had been paired in This Gun for Hire. His Captain Carey, U.S.A. (1950) was notable for its soundtrack containing Nat King Cole's classic song, "Mona Lisa".
Jean Arthur and Alan Ladd in Shane (1953)He formed his own production companies for film and radio and starred in his own syndicated series Box 13, which ran from 1948 to 1949. Ladd became most famous for his title role as a gunslinger in the classic 1953 western Shane. Ladd made the Top Ten Money Making Stars Poll 3 times, in 1947, 1953 and 1954.
Richard Conte (March 24, 1910 – April 15, 1975) was an American actor who appeared in films such as I'll Cry Tomorrow and The Godfather. He was born Nicholas Conte of Italian ancestry in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of a barber. His mothers name was Marie,later called Mary. In 1935, Conte was spotted by Elia Kazan and John Garfield when he was working as an entertainer at a Connecticut resort, which led to Conte finding stage work. Conte eventually earned a scholarship to study at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, where he became a standout actor. The 5 ft 8 in Conte became a Broadway actor in the late-1930s, starring in such plays as Night Music and Walk Into My Parlor. That lead to his first film performance in 1939, Heaven with a Barbed Wire Fence.
In 1942 he signed a long-term contract with 20th Century Fox. He then changed his stage name to Richard. His first film at Fox was Guadalcanal Diary (1943). During the World War II years, Conte played mostly soldiers in war dramas, including A Walk in the Sun (1945).
Following the war, Conte appeared in many films noir after World War II. Conte appeared in such Fox crime dramas as Cry of the City and Call Northside 777 (both from 1948), and Thieves' Highway. Conte appeared in Otto Preminger's classic film noir Whirlpool co-starring Gene Tierney (1949).
This vintage autographed page is in faded pale white. It is signed on each side. The signatures are not obstructed. The Alan Ladd also has a photo of him taped on the side. It comes in a plastic case.
