Handmade silver pendant provided directly by the Greek artisan and inspired by the ancient Greek tetradrachm of Sicilian Naxos, minted at about 450 BC.

OBV:  Bearded head of Dionysus, wearing ivy wreath, hair tied on the nape of his neck.

REV:    Naked Silenus with pointed ears and long tail, holding a kantharos (drinking vessel) in his rised right hand. Inscription reads : "ΝΑΧΙΟΝ" (of Naxos).

The pendant is crafted with extra care in 925 sterling silver, an impressive pendant, reproduction of a rare coin.

If you want to match this pendant with a rubber choker,
please check our store listings
for 15.75" and 17.72" chokers offered.

Notice:  This is an authentic handmade piece, unique and provided directly from the artisan. As in all handmade products, there may be a slight variation in sizes and colors and this is what makes them unique and valuable.

About the coin and its history...
The city of Naxos, was the earliest Greek colony in Sicily, from Greeks originating probably from the Greek island with the same name.
The coin may have been struck (at about 450 BC) to celebrate the return of the city's population back to the city, after 15 years of being held away.

On the obverse side, there is Dionysus' head depicted.
Dionysus or Bacchus (according to the Romans) was the Greek God of wine and fertility. He was represented either as a bearded man (as in this coin), or as beast or as a delicate young person. He was wandering through many lands, teaching the art of wine culture and the mysteries of his cult.
On the reverse side, is depicted Silenus holding a kantharos.
Silenus, the faithful follower and compagnion of Dionysus, was a notorious wine consumer. He was usually drunk and had to be supported by satyrs. When drunk, Silenus was said to have special knowledge and prophecy powers.
