Recommended and used by professional divers, the PowerFlare® electronic beacon is a versatile, high-tech safety device that uses the latest in LED light technology (super-bright array of ultra-bright RED and BLUE LEDs!!!).  This clever devices replaces chemical light sticks (chemlights) and strobe beacons.  It is rated to 80' depth (positively buoyant; floats).  The light can be set to various strobe modes, steady-on "lantern" mode, or U.S. Coast Guard approved "SOS" rescue signal mode.

It is about the size of a hockey puck and can be clipped to divers, dive lines, buoys, dive mats, boats, etc.

This special Red+Blue combo version is designed for SCUBA divers.  It has alternating pairs of red+blue LEDs.

Other waters, particularly coastal waters, contain silt, decomposing plant and animal material, and plankton and a variety of possible pollutants, which add their specific absorptions to that of the water. Plankton, for example, absorb violets and blues, the colors transmitted best by clear water. The amount of material suspended in some harbor water is frequently sufficient to alter the transmission curve completely; not only is very little light transmitted, but the long wavelengths may be transmitted better than the short, a complete reversal of the situation in clear water."
