Victorian Era Traveling Steamer Trunk
Circa 1890's
This old trunk has been around the family house for as long as I can remember, and it's probably from my father's Aunt Verna's collection, as she was a world traveler, and used it last, and we've had it filled with family memories and documents since her passing and estate sale in the early eighties.
The characteristic that is most outstanding about this trunk is it's original in- use condition. The bottom is solid and firm with all 4 casters intact, wood band strips and trim are well used and have an incredible patina, while the leather straps and handles are long gone, most likely with my Aunt Verna. The interior of the piece is in nice shape with a cool picture of 3 victorian ladies in fine dress, and the delicate paper laminated on all the panels worn, some tattered, but mostly intact, showing delicate geometric, square and elliptical patterns. The lock and hasp are in good alignment, as well as the hinges and joints, however the key is missing.
